It's Okay to Struggle

(Originally written June 9, 2020.)

I was going to write this last night, but I was struggling with my baby who prefers screaming and crying to sleeping peacefully so I didn't have the free hands needed to type:

It's okay to struggle.

Yes, it is "okay" to struggle. It's okay to struggle with keeping the house clean, with getting your children to do their schoolwork, with trying to always improve your marriage, with trying to grow closer to God, trying to get things done on your to-do list, trying to work hard and yet know when and how to rest. It's okay to struggle, it means that you're trying.

If you are struggling, do not believe the lies of the enemy that say, "You are alone,". You are not alone! We all live in this same fallen and broken world. We all live with people who are "in the flesh". We all still must battle against our own flesh. This life is a struggle, it is a battle, but for those of us who are in Christ Jesus, we already have victory. It may not always feel like it, but our freedom and victory has been given to us by Christ Himself and is patiently waiting for us in heaven. The Holy Spirit is our assurance. He is our guarantee, the proof of what we cannot see.

So, Sisters in Christ, it's okay to struggle because you know that this struggle is only temporary. We are just passing through and trying to make the most of our time. Work, strive, and yes, rest, not so that you can be "good enough" for we know that our victory was freely given to us in Christ. No, we work, strive, and rest because we are free to do so. No struggle is greater than our God. No struggle can outlast His goodness. Your struggles are passing away, make the most of them while keeping the eyes of your mind and heart on Him who sustains you.

"... let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith." - from Hebrews 12:1-2 CSB
